Well, the top-of-the-range Navigator is back for a refresh for the 2022 model year. After a total redesign for the 2018 Model Year, the 2022 improves on that already great SUV with some subtle yet important upgrades inside and out.
To the untrained eye, the design changes don’t seem like much. The front grille has been reworked along with new adaptive pixel projector headlights and 3D LED Taillights. The shape of the light housing reminds us of the Aviator’s, which is a great thing, because the Aviator is gorgeous. Moving inside the new Navigator, the standout visual changes include a new 13.2’ display screen with SYNC 4 to replace the outgoing 10’ display with SYNC 3. With SYNC 4 we’ll now see wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and hands-free automated driving with ActiveGlide technology – an enhancement from Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control. It’s refreshing to see Lincoln upgrading features that were needed and leaving areas, such as the climate controls, untouched. While many manufacturers are moving towards digital climate displays – the Navigator is keeping high quality metal knobs and buttons that have a great tactile feel and classy look. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Kudos, Lincoln.

There is only one engine option for the new Navigator – the same 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 with 440hp and 510 lb-ft of torque paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. 4x4 is standard with the ability to go into a real-wheel drive mode. This is the same powertrain as the previous year with 10 fewer horsepower. The Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow package is necessary for buyers if they want to make the most out of the Navigators 8700-pound towing capacity. No changes to the engine, in theory, should mean no changes to fuel economy. The 2021 Navigator achieves around a combined 14L/100km so similar numbers can be expected for the 2022.
Enough of the mechanical talk, the Navigator is about luxury, comfort, and technology – and boy, the interior is lavish. High quality leathers, open-pore wood and metals are used everywhere you look to elevate the luxurious experience. Comfort options still include the heated and ventilated massaging 30-way adjustable seats that are borderline ridiculous. If you didn’t get the memo, you can even adjust the individual left and right thigh supports to different heights; just in case one gets tired while driving a long distance. On the road, the 2022 Navigator is now available with Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview. This works with a front camera to evaluate and monitor the road ahead to prepare the suspension to help lessen the impact on both the vehicle and your comfort. No longer the need to have a Rolls Royce to get this sort of technology, it’s now in a Lincoln. Lincoln also integrated sound-dampening technology like Active Noise Control and acoustic laminate glass to limit road noise.

Like all other new Lincoln models, owning the new Navigator will give you access to the complimentary ownership services such as Pickup & Delivery, a loaner vehicle, and an exterior wash and interior vacuum. In addition, Donnelly Lincoln has our own Lincoln Concierge, Darlaine Foley – who is available throughout the day to help you understand your options and answer any Lincoln questions.
